When has a business outgrown owner-led IT decisions?

What should change

The owner should continue to set business priorities and approve significant investment. Senior technology leadership should turn those priorities into a roadmap, bring costs and risks into view, coordinate suppliers and make sure change is adopted.

This creates a cleaner division: the owner decides what matters to the business; the technology leader makes sure the technical environment and delivery model support it.

A practical first step

Start with a whole-business technology and IT strategy review. It should establish the current position, identify urgent risks and decisions, and create a prioritised roadmap.
